Hello lovely people,
What side of the fence do you sit on for Valentine’s Day?
If you’re single, do you spend it with friends or do you just ignore it. If you’ve been in a relationship for donkeys years do you still celebrate this date. Will Valentine’s day be a first date for you or an extra special day. So many marriage proposals are meticulously planned on February 14th. For some romantics, it’s traditional to get married on the anniversary of your engagement.
It’s a day to show those who are truly special to you, gestures of love and kindness. The cynic in you may ask is it just another opportunity for the card industry, florists, restaurants and hotels to cash in on our good will.
I think that Valentine’s day is like a form of Marmite. You either love it and embrace everything about the day or, you hate it.
I really enjoy Valentine’s Day. I am a sentimental, romantic girl at heart and I’m also really nosy and just love looking all around me on this date and seeing all the romance, proposals, tears (happy ones of course) and happiness. For me it’s not about grande gestures of gifts and lavish dinners, (although if Mulberry want to send me a red Bayswater, Lilly or ANYTHING in their range, I’ll happily change my view on this) it’s just an opportunity to spend more time doing special things with the people in your life who you really care about. For me, that will be with Mr M and my little girl. Probably on the sofa; with our dinner, a bottle of sparkly and a Sky movie. The one that you pay for as it is officially a date night on Valentines.
I love wrapping presents. Everyone gets a ribbon which I make clear, is just for show and belongs back in my ribbon box. I try not to judge people that are not so good at wrapping or don’t include ribbons. I try but sometimes my face is a giveaway. My lovely mother defeats the object of wrapping anything. She will hand you a present and then in the next breath tell you what it is and that she hopes that you like it. Every time. Without fail. My mother-in-law has complete disregard for wrapping anything. She favours the gift bag approach with sellotape on the opening. She is forgiven though, as like my mother; she always gives really amazing and thoughtful gifts.
I love the look on someone’s face when they are ripping open a present and then the disappointment comes followed by THAT face which says ‘it’s lovely’ when in fact they are gutted. That rarely happens to me. I could find a use for literally anything. There is always a silver lining for me.
When at first you think you know what something is and really look forward to it, only to discover that is actually something completely different.
It’s like reaching for the tin of Roses chocolates when your gagging for a treat with a cup of tea only to find that it’s actually a sewing box. Awesome. Win win situation for me.
Flowers, candles, chocolate, perfume and beauty products are always massive hits if you’re looking for gift ideas.
I’m cheeky and will always seek out a gift that I can benefit from too. Its a no brainer for me when choosing beauty products as I am constantly surrounded by the most beautiful luxury body oils, (Sooth The Senses) and candles (Signature Tropic candle).
I’m in LOVE with both of The Soothe the Senses Body Washes. The texture is that of a creamy, luscious, indulgent body wash with the most exotic ingredients. Whichever body wash you choose will leave you feeling so refreshed and smelling beautiful. I alternate between both the Calming and awakening wash.
People who know me would probably say I should stick with the calming wash as I am so hyper most of the time. Mr M would definitely advise the Awakening wash as I’m generally falling asleep after dinner and hanging off the sofa.
Did I mention that they have matching luxury body oils. Are you thinking body massage, bath oil, hand massage, head massage…
Not forgetting that with every massage, you need a candle that can hold its own. Introducing the Tropic Signature soy wax candle. If you’re looking for a luxury 100% natural soy wax candle, then look no further. This beautiful candle will fill your home with the most amazing blend of lemon, neroli, may chang and thyme. The candle comes in a beautiful glass holder with the signature design. This is my ultimate bath time indulgence. The reviews speak for themselves.
The one thing that is categorically geared towards the man in your life is The Manmade Collection. This luxury collection contains a 2-in-1 shaving lotion and a lightweight, hydrating face cream. The Look Sharp Sensitive Shave, is very generous in size (100ml) and contains aloe vera juice, tasman pepper extract and black oat to sooth sensitive skin.
The Energy Boost daily moisturiser smells absolutely delicious. Its like a really fresh spicy smell. If it was a lip balm, I would honestly eat it. This cream contains antioxidant-rich cactus extract, (I wouldn’t eat the cactus) which protects against daily pollution. It is formulated with vitamin C and green coffee to even skin tone. This cream is just what your skins needs after a close shave.
If you need ANOTHER reason to invest or treat someone to this collection – if you buy it before 31st January, you will get 25% off as its in the winter sale.
The packaging has been well thought out for a man as typical Tropic products are in clean white containers and the packaging is a bright tropical assortment of leaves and flowers. Probably more feminine than masculine if I say that without sounding sexist. Its a deep dove grey in colour and both products have a non-fussy flip lid. Its an absolute steal at £24!
I’m signing off now but I’m going to be back on Monday as I’ve got so much excitement over the weekend, I’ll never make it to next Friday to share it with you. Drum roll please. I am meeting the inspirational founder of Tropic Skincare – Susie Ma, tomorrow at the Cambridge Road show (Holiday Inn Cambridge, 14:15 – 16:30).
I am beside myself with excitement and giddy with the anticipation of what will be such a momentous event for me. I’ll be taking loads of pictures and sitting right in the front row so she will know I’m her number one fan! Please don’t compare me to the stalker in The Bodyguard.
It’s absolutely FREE to attend and everyone will get a goodie bag as well as a talk from Susie about clean living and how all her amazing products are sourced and made in the Surrey kitchen. Head over to The Tropic Skin Care Facebook page to see how amazing the reviews have been so far. I’ll see you all there!
Ps – the picture of the beautiful crochet heart wreath is NOT my make. I wish! It’s the work of a very talented lady called Lucy from Attic24. Her work is so uniquely original and at this time of year, very romantic.
Pps – the picture of my daughters joint first birthday cake, (first of many) as promised last week. Spot my amazing new light box!! X
